Karim Rashid~

Karim, karim, karim...
I arrived to the Carleton Industrial Design 27th Annual Grad Show to see a sea of people dressed in "PINK" for the much anticipated guests: Karim Rashid

I have to say I'm not too fond of designer "STARS", yet I suppose I have been dragged to the show under such a hype...i guess i found it amusing watching the pink trail of Karim followers, sticking behind him as he walks through the grad exhibit, in an attempt to get his autograph and a picture with him...

so... what was the show about?... HAHA... Karim? or the GRADS?... anyways... nobody seemed interested in the exhibits, they were all there for the free food and booze...and most of all Karim... i suppose...its unfortunate...

the 3rd year ID students put in a lot of effort to organize the show for their 4th year peers...yet...nothing seemed more important than Karim himself.... so much for "I Dream!", the theme for this year's show... who is everyone dreaming of??? "I dream of Karim?"... HAHA... i'm sorry to say...

but... despite all of this, I had a good time... the cream pastries were so good! HAHA... i'm dreaming now...

~Going, going, almost there...

why do i feel like i'm in Japan already?
for the last few days, all i've been doing is browsing Japanese websites...one thing i've noticed is that they HIGHLIGHT very clearly whether a link is JAPANESE ONLY, or not...
even with some of the ENGLISH TRANSLATED pages, it is still hard to understand...

the world of the Japanese is just one crazy one... i'm trying to learn it... hopefully before i head over there at the end of June... it looks as though i'll be spending my birthday this year in Japan!!! whoohooo... Japanese birthday cake for me :P yum yum

here are some interesting links (for those interested in visiting Japan):

wow... japan? $500 CAD?

haha.. dun get all happy yet, yes.. it is $500 but not from canada.. haha
flying from Hong Kong to Tokyo on United Airlines before July 7th is only $3000 HKD... so thats about $500 CAD...
www.travelocity.ca

its a good deal.. most other airlines (Cathay/JAL) are double that price...
even after the 7th.. its about $4000 HKD ($700 CAD)... much better offering than others..
but.. somehoe UA only flies to Tokyo, no Osaka...

travelocity: a good website for travel searches in Canadian Dollars, good flight search, compares many airlines... gives u best offerings... but cant do open jaw...it does multiple destination but not well...
so for simple return .. its GREAT!

haha... i'm starting to plan my trip... looks like i'm heading to Japan :) hehe
oh....why? cuz i wanna go to Japan Expo 2005
http://www.expo2005.or.jp

and .... thinking of taking bullet train from Tokyo to the expo site... there are packages that include round trip train tickets plus entrance fees from Japan local travel agencies... about $200 CAD a day... a little more for a-night stay... pretty decent...

i cant wait to ride the bullet!

~sunny~sunny~ i like!!!

the weather was amazing today! i wish it can be sunny everyday!!!
so... alex and i went out all morning and afternoon today....

we walked to the glebe and had lunch at Taj Mahal!!! its a yummy buffet... all you can eat $8.95, pretty good deal~ http://www.wcities.com/en/record/96,213210/71/record.html
its a good way to sample indian cuisine.. since i really dunno anything about it.. other than curry.. haha
... my favorite is naan bread...they taste so good... and there's even a window in the restaurant that allows you to see into the kitchen... you can watch them prepare the naan bread right in front of you... i was surprised at how clean the restaurant was...i guess its bad i have assumptions before i've tried.. but anyways... give Indian a try if you havent!!! :)

and after lunch.. we browsed around the glebe area, there were so many people strolling the streets.. its great... i enjoyed most of my time at "The Sassy Beads" store
http://www.sassybead.yp.ca/
this store is great... i've always loved browsing there... but today.. i went and picked out some stuff.. and made myself a necklace!!! i need to get some pictures up on this site... so you can all see!!! anyways... i picked out some fabulous glass ornament .. and i turned it into a necklace...
and.. when i came home to write this blog.. i tried searching for them online.. and found their website... they actually have a store in toronto.. yonge/eglinton area... go have a look!!!

while i look at beads... alex joined me... i guess it was fun for him too.. until the choices and colors drove him crazy.. and we decided to go.. before i spent more money on tiny beads.. haha...
so... it wasnt long before we hit a store called Boomerang Kids...this store is a kids store.. selling things from clothing to toys, for infants to i say 12 year olds... but i guess either alex just wants kids really bad... or he's still 12... shh.... dun tell him i said that..

anyways.. he went nuts... going through all the toys.... (by the way, they sell second hand toys.... so there's lot of good finds... especially old toys from our age.. which our parents have give away or thrown out.. :P).. so, alex went digging.. and wouldnt leave.. haha.. i felt like a mother trying to get his son to leave a candy store... haha
so.. in the end.. he manage to ONLY take away 3 things with him... not to be misleaded by the number 3.. haha.. one of these was a train set with a full set of tracks, people, and train station, all powered by batteries... this thing is huge!!! .. haha.. i'm not the one who has to figure out how to bring it back to Taiwan!!!

oh.. and thats not it... we then went for a walk (with all the toys) on the canal... plus we bought a SLURPEE at 7eleven... and we took some funny pictures... oh.. and a nasty thing we noticed were crustacean arms and legs all over the path next to the canal... and we thought there were crabs in the canal... but it was weird how.. there were no bodies lying around... then.. we spotted a half eaten crayfish... and so.. it must be the seagulls eating up crayfish and leaving the arms and legs around... haha...
so thats my day.. absolutely beautiful day!!!
oh.. and alex won in an arm wrestling bet with his roommate ivan... so.. ivan has to shave his head... which i have the honour of doing tomolo!!! nice!

~Rainy Day~ tired and bored

it is raining... and i'm bored at work... what else is new? haha
Through all the bored times at work, I've had the opportunities to track down a few wonderful websites with daily spectacles!!! haha.. no fireworks, but interesting facts.. for me at least!

Astronomy Picture of the Day:
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html
this website has a new picture everyday, including interesting facts and descriptions you could follow up on. The universe is just amazing, and see outer space everyday is eye opening, compared to the ugly buildings we see in Canada :P
... oh.. and today.. it talks about a solar elipse that is suppose to occur tomolo!!! the best place to view it is in the southern hemisphere...
...oh.. and one more thing... you can also look back at all the previous "pic of the day"... so.. it can REALLY KILL TIME... if you know what i mean...

TROIKA:
http://www.troika.de/
this is a German "Industrial Design" company.. what i like... is their keychains...
take a browse!! ... but what i havent been able to do .. is find a place that sells these lovely gadgets... anyone???... even over the internet... its rare... ebay never has a good selection.. but maybe just my bad chance of luck...well.. let me know if you now where to but one...

Pilot Guides:
http://www.pilotguides.com/
Lonely Planet:
http://www.lonelyplanet.com/
anyone else like OLN?.. haha.. lately.. the channel i keep the TV on ... even when i'm not really watching.. is 56 (in ottawa).. which is the "Outdoor Life Network"
... i guess i just like travelling...so its fun.. even to watch!

Project Gutenberg:
http://www.promo.net/pg/
another thing that really KILLS TIME.. is this website... full of free readings... many books, novels, writings, journals.. of the past have been typed up by some nice people and published on this website... you can really find full novels, especially the classics... poetry if you're into poetry... even books in other languages... original and translated!!! HA!
... i've tried reading some chinese... its very interesting... like reading the original.. and than the translated...
... short stories are also good.. cuz it seems like you're moving along quicker!

well... thats about it for now... hopefully enough to kill rainy days...
