a journey back long long ago... or not so long ago

has anyone questioned why we're at the end of march
already? 1/4 of 2010 has gone out the door?..
anyways .. thats beside the reason why i should be
writing in here.. haha

i came across this project today:
Niyang River Visitor Center by
Standardarchitecture-Zhaoyang Studio

its in Tibet China, please see full details at this website:

i've attached the few images that i really like and explain to you why i love this so much. This first image just popped out at me... i think its the colours... and the perspectival geometries!!!! all of which are what i envision all the time...

then i saw this second image!!! and i just went "ahhhhh!"... the contrast of the blue and orange/red... its just stunning!!! i was just speechless... i think somehow it just evokes all those internal feelings in me... those of you who have seen my work.. would probably feel that energy.. (or perhaps only i would get it).. but the strong contrast.. light and shadow.. simplicity of geometry... need i say more?
and then this bottom model just says it all to me... i'm not sure it would speak to all of you who don't imagine geometries the same way i do.. or understand the nature of perspectives.. but these combination of cubic forms.. and triangular prisms just says it all.. it reminds me of a model i made back in second year.. a project for a house design within a rectangular pit... i had massed out 3 triangular prisms that intersect into each other, creating a similar idea to the one below...
of course.. i was so young then.. i had not realized the full potential of the massing study... and didn't even end up using those ideas... but it was one of those "discarded" ideas i always kept at the back of my mind... i knew it would always come back to plague me... and so it DOES... haha

i hope i still have some images of that model i made... don't u just miss those undergrad days?.. studio life?.. when the mind is free to imagine...

Happy New Year ~ at work

first entry of the new 2010!! ....

what better than with photos taken during work?

this first one.. taken on a site measure... the perfect lighting casting shadow on the railing over an open space below:

these next photos are of a plant in our conference/lunch room... i've always loved how the light shines thru the leaves... and for the first time.. i have my camera with me at work.. at the perfect light conditions, the series start with simple lighting condition where the sun is at at 45 degree... then it gets steeper... creating series of light ray patters... enjoy!

and.. as i was taking these photos.. i made my self some tea... and in the same sunlight... the steam was able to be seen:

the steam does these lovely dancing patterns... absolutely stunning!..

i just love moments like these... where u stop.. and admire beauty at its essence! ~ just luv it!
